Combining tried and true adventure game elements with a top down viewpoint more common to action-based RPGs, Meridian4’s latest release, Daemonica, is a nicely unsettling way to spend a gloomy weekend. A medieval murder mystery with a rich supernatural undercurrent, the game does a great job in introducing Nicholas Farepoynt to adventure fans as a character worth watching.
It’s great to see a horror-themed game that goes more for the cerebral end of the spectrum rather than straight the jugular, but there are a few moments where you might not want to step into a darkened area or find out what’s happened to a character you’ve befriended. Adventure fans in the market for a darker, demonic twist to their favorite genre will be pleased as punch meet Nicholas and guide him to his destiny. Hmmm... I wonder how you say Buy this game in Daemonica?

The short opening scene, the storm and the graveyard, the apparent darkness in the upcoming tale, the images on the load screen; these were all things designed to be immediately appealing to me. With its "CSI: Medieval" meets "The Exorcist" stylings, this is one game that should find a nice home in adventure fans’ hearts. Overall, we’re quite impressed at how well Daemonica manages to capture the perfect blend of horror themes and investigative work that’s key to a solid game.
