All in all, Shadowgrounds: Survivor is a game for fans, casual gamers, and for gamers who miss the old ‘simple’ style of the arcade era. The added survival mode, along with the other standard co-op and features means that this is a game that can be replayed several times, especially with friends.

I think that the co-op play option really adds a level of replay value if you have a friend willing to blow up some alien scum. All in all, the game delivers an old-school feel in a new school package and it works very well together.

There are cliches all around, there is hammy overacting, and yet it delivers good solid run-n-gun gameplay with copious explosions and creepy atmosphere aplenty. Shadowgrounds: Survivor delivers solid action gaming. It's an old school run-n-gun shooter that perfectly captures the flavor of the best "bad sci-fi" movies out there.

Top down shooters like many in the past, but games built for newer technology and are obviously done by gamers who love to game. I would have to say this game is a buy for action fans, a great value for your money.

There’s plenty here for several weeks of play time and for those of you who enjoy decent game play more than most of the graphically stunning crap game play bug fests that are out there, Shadow grounds is well worth the money.

A compelling twitch shooter - presuming the controls are set properly – Shadowgrounds: Survivor is a tiny gem and a great impulse buy for those late-night drunken Steam crawls.

It's an instant classic and the perfect slice of fast twitch, shallow fun to give your gray matter a break from all that civilization building and warmongering.

Overall Frozenbyte has produced a more robust and enjoyable version of an already solid title. Don’t fret over the top down view, as this is some of the more fun action gaming you’ll have at a bargain price.

It's an excellent throwback title to a type of gameplay that doesn't require 600 hours of dedication to get to the good part, memorization of unnecessarily complicated technology trees, or the need to page through thousands of lines of dialogue options to get anything accomplished. It's simple, enjoyable, pretty, and perhaps best of all, it's cheap.

Shadowgrounds: Survivor is a fantastic game that deserves more attention that it is getting. Even if you weren't a fan of first game, Shadowgrounds: Survivor is worth giving a try if you're in the market for a fun, inexpensive, shooter experience.

Its clean, solid presentation and hectic, engrossing gameplay make it worthy of praise. You get a lot of game for pocket change, and that it’s a great shooter makes it worth every penny.

[The] developers decided to “remix” this game and release a hybrid expansion/follow-up. The result is Shadowgrounds Survivor, and it's every bit as good as the first release. Survivor, the extended remix of Shadowgrounds, is a must-have for any fans of action-horror.

FrozenByte definitely has a winner on its hand. If you have the hankering to play an action top down shooter that looks good and has addictive gameplay, look no further than Shadowgrounds: Survivor.

A game that is surprisingly fun to play. Overall though there's a good amount of gameplay to be squeezed out of this title, and you can get that gameplay for half the price you'd pay for most games. Shadowgrounds Survivor is one of those rare budget titles that actually is worth the money.

I would not suggest this game for those faint of heart, squeamish, or who find immense gore and carnage offensive. I greatly enjoyed the unending masses of aliens which I splattered all over the landscape with pistol, machine gun, and flame thrower.

It’s so unbelievably enjoyable, so fluid to control and so chillingly good-looking… Shadowgrounds Survivor is truly a visceral, retro experience that takes us back to a warmer, happier time.

I was positively impressed with Shadowgrounds last year. It was a fast-paced top-down shooter in the spirit of the classics only brought up to modern standards with precise graphics and controls. At that time I finished my review saying I wanted more, and thankfully Frozenbyte did just that with the sequel Shadowgrounds Survivor, which tweaks the original game but keeps the feel and gameplay that made it fun.

EvilAvatar
Frozenbyte has made a really good looking game in Shadowgrounds Survivor that needs some tightening in areas here and there. It is hard to imagine that a budget game like this could have such good graphics when things like Crysis push even the best systems to their limits. This game should be worth checking out when it comes in November 14th for $19.99 via at least Steam.

It's not exactly a major innovation for the medium, but Survivor looks to add some much-needed replayability to the game's fast and difficult single-player missions.

GameShark
"If you've played the first game in the series, you'll have a broad idea of what to expect in the sequel: frantic shooting action as you attempt to repel hordes of enemies, mission-style objectives, and a storyline cribbed directly from Aliens. Not that the storyline matters too much, of course. This is one of those games you play for the action, not the plot; and here Frozenbyte bats it out of the park."

Based on our preview build, Shadowgrounds Survivor has the potiential to be a big improvement on the original game with more options, better visuals and physics support and the new Survivor mode that should encourage replayablity.

Now I still liken this title to those Fallout games, with their black humor and over-the-top gore factor, here is more of the same and I love it. The point is, the game is a real whiz-bang frag fest and I am looking forward to getting gooey all over again.

Shadowgrounds: Survivor intends to ship in the last months of 2007, and it's likely to cause another stir in the gaming underground. So the question that now stands is: will Shadowgrounds: Survivor make or break its predecessor? Frozenbyte is piecing the game together for the finishing touches as of this moment, so if it all works out at the final build, you can bet it will.

All told, I feel very confident that Survivor will live up to and exceed the precedent set by Shadowgrounds. It carries all of the mood and terror of the original, with a host of innovations and improvements.
